I discuss my concerns with President Obama’s decision to designate the influx of child migrants to the U.S. as an “urgent humanitarian situation,” primarily that doing so creates an emergency situation under the Flores Settlement Agreement. By doing so, the services and procedures guaranteed by that document (created after years of legislation to better protect child migrants) can be suspended. I also mention the difficulty for child migrants in the U.S. who miss their homes. I explain that many would gladly return to their homes if they thought they could do so safely and be able to survive.

Expreso mi preocupación acerca de la decisión tomada por el presidente Obama de nombrar al flujo de niños migrantes hacia los Estados Unidos como una “situación de crisis urgente”, sobre todo porque crea una situación de emergencia con el Flores Settlement Agreement. Lo hace de tal forma que los servicios y procedimientos garantizados por el documento podrían verse suspendidos (este documento fue constituido después de varios años de legislación con el fin de proteger mejor a los niños migrantes). También, expreso las dificultades que enfrentan los niños migrantes en Estados Unidos, quienes extrañan sus hogares. Explico que muchos de ellos estarían dispuestos a regresar si pudieran estar seguros y ser capaces de sobrevivir.
